(A small, single-engine red aeroplane is dwarfed by the magnificence of
the snow covered mountains that if flies over. Inside the cockpit, Jarod
picks up his cellular phone and dials.)
Sydney: This is Sydney.
Jarod: It’s incredible how beautiful Yellowstone is, even from twelve
thousand feet.
Sydney: I can barely hear you.
Jarod: I’m going through a little turbulence. (He leans forward and
makes a small adjustment to the controls.) Speaking of black clouds, is
Miss Parker around?
Sydney: She hasn’t arrived yet.
Jarod: Well, it’s very important that I speak with her.
Sydney: Sounds mysterious.
Jarod: I’m on my way to meet someone that was very close to her
mother. Someone who can answer a lot of questions.
(There is a small but unusual popping sound from the engine of the
aircraft. A spray of engine oil beads on the windscreen.)
Sydney: Jarod, is something wrong?
Jarod: (He makes some further adjustments but the engine is now
misfiring badly.) I’m fine, but my engine doesn’t appear to be. Listen
Sydney, I don’t have much time. Did the package come that I sent for
Miss Parker?
Sydney: It arrived early this morning.
Jarod: See that she gets it.
Sydney: Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it.
Jarod: Sydney if you don’t talk to me in one hour . . . (The failing engine
finally demands all of his attention. He disconnects and throws the phone
onto the seat beside him.)
Sydney: Jarod?
Jarod: Come on baby don’t fail on me now.

The Centre
Sim Lab
(Broots and Angelo sit in front of a television. Broots laughs at the antics
of a group of monkeys that are playing out a drama similar to that of The
Lone Ranger. Angelo watches unblinkingly, seemingly unmoved by the
pictures. Miss Parker enters the lab unnoticed by Broots.)
Parker: Home movies, Broots?
Broots: (He jumps up, startled.) Oh, Miss Parker. Good morning.
Parker: What’s good about it, Cheeta? (She takes a swig at a bottle of
antacid.)
Broots: Well, ah, are you okay?
Parker: Just peachy. Thomas is out of town for another week. The last
time I checked my father was still in (?) with that troll. And if that’s not
enough torment he left Raines in charge of this nut house. Speaking of
which just what in the hell are you two doing?
Broots: Oh ah, it’s therapy. Sydney’s hoping that a little cognitive
stimulation might improve Angelo’s expressive abilities.
Parker: Well it certainly seems to be working for the monkeys.
Sydney: Oh Miss Parker.
Parker: You wanted to see me Dr Doolittle?
Sydney: You okay?
Parker: I’m fine. Geez, a person gets a little gas and people think you’re
dying.
Sydney: It seems like you’ve had a great deal of indigestion lately.
Parker: What do you expect? I work with you three.
Television: And it sure made a happy girl out of Fanny. And made a big
hero out of Lonesome Stranger. (On the screen, a masked monkey sits on
the back of a big dog.)
Parker: For God’s sake. (She grabs the remote control and turns off the
television. Angelo blinks.) What do you want Sydney?
Sydney: (He hands her a package.) It’s from Jarod, for you.
Parker: (She grabs the package opens it, and examines the postmark
before discarding the envelope.) Probably another twisted attempt to rub
my face in my twisted dysfunctional family life. (The package contains a
small white box. She removes the lid, and pulls back the tissue paper. In
surprise she reverently removes a set of rosary beads. She holds them
up.)
Broots: A rosary?
Angelo: (He stands and moves to Miss Parker, taking her by the hand
that is holding up the rosary.) Miss Parker has pain. (Tears form in her
eyes and she sways.)
Sydney: Parker, are you okay?
Parker: Sydney. (She collapses. Sydney and Broots crouch beside her.)
Broots: Miss Parker? Miss Parker.
Sydney: Parker, Parker. Can you hear me?
Broots: Syd she was just standing there and the she just fell. (He places
a hand on her forehead.) Oh my God, she’s burning up.
Sydney: She’s going into shock. We’ve got to her to a hospital now.
Broots: Okay. (He stands and runs up the stairs.) Help! We need help.
Somebody call 911 . . .
Angelo: (He picks up the rosary from where Miss Parker dropped it.)
Miss Parker needs faith. But faith is dead. Miss Parker needs faith. But
faith is dead.

Somewhere Over Yellowstone
(Jarod’s predicament has not improved any. He picks up the radio.)
Jarod: Mayday. Mayday. This is two-niner Charlie Victor. Over.
Radio: What’s your problem Charlie Victor?
Jarod: I’ve lost all power and I’m descending rapidly.
Radio: Charlie Victor what’s your location? Over. Charlie Victor, do you
read me? Over.
(Jarod throws down the radio as he struggles to keep the aircraft airborne.
He pulls back on the stick as the top of a ledge looms. The plane hits the
ledge, ripping off one of the floats and throwing Jarod forward against the
controls. The plane continues to plummet. Below, a river winds through
a canyon. The plane hits the surface of the river, nose diving before
flipping over in a shower of water.)

OPENING CREDITS

Crash Site
(The plane has ended upside down in the water. Jarod has dragged
himself to the rivers edge.)
Jarod: Urgh! Urgh! Argh!
(He has injured his left arm, unable to use it to help his progress. He
crawls out of the water and turns over, resting his head against a
weathered log. His right leg is gashed and bleeding freely. He loses
consciousness.)

Hospital
(An EMT, nurses and doctor move down the corridor, escorting Miss
Parker who is still unconscious on a gurney. Sydney and Broots hurry
along in their wake.)
Nurse: BP is 70 over 40 and falling. Pulse 110 and thready. Pupils
dilated and unresponsive. O2 saturation 78. Respiration is shallow at 40.
Doctor: She needs plasma O neg. Lots of it. I want a CVV blood gases,
the works. (She stops to talk to Sydney.) You’re a doctor, right?
Sydney: Psychiatrist.
Doctor: What the hell happened?
Sydney: She was experiencing abdominal pain and then she just
collapsed. She has a history of ulcers. And she’s been under a lot of
stress.
Doctor: She appears to have massive internal bleeding, probably a
perforated ulcer.
Broots: Will she be okay?
Doctor: It’s too early to tell. Excuse me. (She goes into the Emergency
Room.) Alert surgery.
Sydney: Broots I've got to get back to The Centre.
Broots: You’re leaving now, Syd?
Sydney: Jarod is supposed to call.
Broots: Jarod?
Sydney: I’ll explain later. Stay here and monitor her condition. I’ll be
back.
Broots: Okay. (He turns and looks into the ER where the trauma team is
working on Miss Parker. The door slowly closes preventing further
observation.) I’m not going anywhere.

Emergency Room
(Miss Parker turns her head towards the bed beside her to where a priest
and two others stand, the priest saying the last rights over the person
there.)
Priest: Yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I
will fear no evil for thou art with me. In the name of the Father, the Son
and the Holy Spirit.

Flashback
Sim Lab
(Young Jarod is working at his desk. Miss Parker comes down the stairs.)
Miss Parker: Jarod, can you keep a secret?
Young Jarod: I guess so Miss Parker. What is it?
Miss Parker: There’s a dead body in the Centre.
Young Jarod: A dead body? (He stops writing.) Where is it?
Miss Parker: I saw them deliver the coffin this morning to Doctor Raines.
He told them to take it to the containment area.
Young Jarod: Yeah. I’ve heard Sydney talk about that place. They do a
lot of special projects down there, but they’ve never taken me there. I
don’t even know where it is.
Miss Parker: Me neither. I asked my daddy about the coffin and the
body, but he wouldn’t talk about it. For the last few weeks, since mummy
died he’s been too busy to talk to me about anything. I still can’t believe
she’s really gone.
Young Jarod: I’m sorry about your mother.
Miss Parker: I’m okay. Anyway, if Dad won’t tell me where the body is
I’ll find it on my own.
Young Jarod: Well if you could follow Doctor Raines without him knowing
it, he would lead you straight to it.
Miss Parker: Come on. Then let’s go find him.
Young Jarod: Wait I didn’t say I would do it.
Miss Parker: You’re not scared are you?
Young Jarod: No. It’s just . . . I’ve never seen anyone who’s dead
before.
Miss Parker: It can’t hurt you any more. I’m more afraid of Doctor
Raines. I hate doctors.

Hospital
Operating Theatre
Doctor: She’s lost a lot of blood. Pressures barely detectable. We don’t
have much time.
Nurse: She’s prepped for abdominal entry.
Doctor: You’re ready?
Doctor: She’s out. Let’s start.
Doctor: This one’s going to need a miracle to survive.

Crash Site
(Jarod grunts in pain as he moves suddenly jarring his dislocated
shoulder. He slowly moves his arm over the log and then jerks his torso
around forcing the bones to slip back into position. He yells. The sound
echoes around the mountains. He reaches down and picks up the survival
kit that is lying near his feet. He coughs and passes out.)

Flashback
(Miss Parker and Young Jarod are watching Raines from a concealed
position.)
Young Jarod: I wonder what it’s like to die.
Miss Parker: Ask Raines. Looks like he died a long time ago. Come on
let’s go find the dead guy. (Raines goes through a doorway. They stand
up, ready to follow Raines.)
Young Jarod: It’s weird. Death is something that everyone experiences
but no one wants to talk about.
Miss Parker: Yeah. When my mum died all the grown ups would come
up and talk to me about anything except what I wanted to talk about.
About what happened to her. He went this way.
Young Jarod: So then we find the coffin and then what?
Miss Parker: We open it.
Young Jarod: I wonder what it will look like. What if it was someone
who was mutilated in a wreck or killed in a sim.
Miss Parker: Or maybe it was someone The Centre wanted to get rid of.
Maybe Doctor Raines created some kind of monster, like Frankenstein.
Young Jarod: Who’s Frankenstein? (They hear a noise.) He’s coming
back. Come on. (They open a door and enter an abandoned office. The
furniture and equipment is shrouded in dustsheets.) There’s nowhere to
hide. What do we do?
Miss Parker: I don’t know.
(Outside the room, Mr Raines tries to open the door. Upon finding it
locked he takes out a set of keys and opens the door.)
Mr Raines: Who’s in there?
(He looks around before grabbing the edge of the desk and flipping it
over. There is no one there. He turns and leaves. Miss Parker, Young
Jarod, and Young Angelo peer out from between the slats in the
ventilation shaft cover.)
Miss Parker: Thanks Angelo.
Young Angelo: Faith is waiting. (He turns and crawls off.)
Young Jarod: That was too close.
Miss Parker: Don’t wet your pants Jarod. You look like you’re going to
pass out or something.

Crash Site
(Jarod, still propped against the dead tree, applies a last piece of tape to
the bandage that he has wrapped around his gashed leg. Even still, an
excessive amount of blood has seeped through the gauze. He hears a
snarl from behind him. He turns to see a white wolf behind him. It licks
its lips.)
Jarod: Perfect. Get out of here! . (He picks up a rock and throws it at
the dog. Jarod looks at his watch. It is 3:45pm. He reaches into the
Survival Kit and starts flicking around its contents. He finds a radio. He
takes it out and turns it on.) Hello, can anybody read me? This is an
emergency. Hello? Over.
(At the Montana Air Patrol Station, a man sitting on the edge of a desk
responds to Jarod’s call.)
Air Patrol: This is Montana Air Patrol. Please respond.
Jarod: This is two-nine Charlie Victor. My engine stalled and I’ve crashed
into a river or an inlet. I need some help.
Air Patrol: Are you hurt? Over.
Jarod: I have multiple lacerations and I’ve dislocated my shoulder. And I
think I’ve broken a couple of ribs. I’m stable for now but I could use
medical help.
Air Patrol: Roger that. Are there any other survivors? Over. (He nods at
a man standing at the door who enters. The first man nods towards the
map which is pinned to the wall of the office.)
Jarod: No I’m alone. Hello? Hello? Can you hear me Air Patrol? Over.
Hello? Hello?
Air Patrol: This is Air Patrol. I’m losing your signal. There is a cold front
moving in. We need your exact location. Respond.
Jarod: I’m not sure. I was about two hours outside of Casper. I was
heading west. I’m about thirty miles from . . . (The second man is trying
to locate the position on the map. Jarod’s voice is distorted by a blast of
static.)
Air Patrol: Thirty miles from where, Charlie Victor? I’m losing you.
Jarod: Hello? Hello?
Air Patrol: Please respond, Charlie Victor. I’ve lost him.
Air Patrol 2: Probably for good. Nobody could survive a night out there.
No one.
Jarod: Hello. Can you hear me? Over. (He throws down the radio in
disgust. He starts to yell, the panic evident in his voice.) Can anybody
hear me? Hello? Can anybody hear me? (The sound of his voice echoes
back to him from the snow-covered mountains behind him.)

The Centre
Sim Lab
(The phone rings and Sydney hurriedly answers it.)
Sydney: Jarod?
Broots: No it’s Broots. I’m here at the hospital. What’s going on?
Sydney: Jarod never called. It’s not like him. How’s Miss Parker?
Broots: I don’t know. They just brought her out of surgery. They’re
getting her settled into ICU. I want to go in there but they’re not letting
any one see her yet. She shouldn’t be alone in there, Syd.
Sydney: Stay put Broots. I’m heading back there right away.
Broots: Okay. No one should be alone at a time like this.

Crash Site
(It is night. Jarod looks at watch. It is now 8:45pm. The wind blows
through the trees and a dog howls in the distance. He takes the thermal
blanket out of the Survival Kit and wraps it around his shoulders. He
flicks through the contents of the Survival Kit and finds a box of matches.
There are only three of them. He piles up some twigs. He lights the first
match. A sudden gust of wind extinguishes the flame. He takes out the
second match. It breaks. The third match . . .
Jarod: Come on. Come on. Please light. Come on. Don’t go out on me.
(The match flares and he applies it to the twigs. He gets a small fire
going and he puts some more twigs on it. He looks up in fear as he
realises that it has started to snow.)

The Hospital
ICU
(Mr Broots opens the door, looking down the corridor checking to see if he
is being observed. He moves to Miss Parker’s side. She is unconscious,
pale and fragile.)
Broots: You look so cold. (He pulls up the blanket.) It’s so strange you
giving me a hard time all the time but I know you don’t mean it. I know
it’s just your way. You’ve always been there for me whenever I needed
someone there was you. Man, you probably can’t even hear me. I just
want you to know that other than Debbie, I feel closer to you than to
anyone. (He picks up her hand.) Miss Parker. Oh, you can’t leave me.
(He kisses her hand and starts to cry.) Miss Parker. Don’t be afraid. (He
re-adjusts the blanket and she moans.) Don’t be afraid Miss Parker.

Flashback
(The young trio move through the ventilation shaft.)
Young Jarod: Don’t be afraid, Miss Parker.
Miss Parker: Afraid? I’m not afraid, I just want to know where the hell
we’re going. (The tone of her voice belies her response.)
Young Angelo: Miss Parker needs faith.
Miss Parker: We don’t need faith Angelo. We have to find the body.
(Young Angelo points towards a ventilation grate. Through the slats a
strange construction can be seen. It is a large doom-shaped structure
made from metal girders that meet at the centre of the dome. The
girders are covered with diaphanous material. It appears to be glowing.
Jarod kicks the cover of the shaft out so that it falls with a clatter to the
floor. They jump out of the shaft.)
Young Jarod: Look. That must be it.
Miss Parker: What is it?
Young Jarod: It’s where they’re keeping the body.
Young Angelo: Faith.
(They start to walk towards the dome.)
Young Jarod: It feels strange to be here.
Miss Parker: Well, maybe we shouldn’t be. Come on, let’s get out of
here.
Young Jarod: Wait! We’ve come this far. What’s wrong?
Miss Parker: Nothing. It reminds me of . . . Never mind.
Young Jarod: But I thought you wanted to see it.
Miss Parker: I do. It just isn’t the right time.
Young Jarod: Are you afraid?
Miss Parker: I don’t know.
Young Jarod: Come on.
(Young Angelo pulls back the fabric at the entrance to the dome and they
enter.)

Crash Site
(Jarod puts another twig on the fire. The dog whimpers. He pulls the
thermal blanket tighter around himself in a vain attempt to keep warm.)
Jarod: You hungry? Well so am I. So you’re just going to have to wait a
little longer for me. (He picks up a rock and throws it at the animal. He
turns back to the fire in time to see a clump of snow, blown off an
overhanging branch, extinguish his fire.) No!

Hospital
ICU
(Broots gently strokes Miss Parker’s face with his thumb. The door opens
and Sydney enters. Broots stands quickly and goes over to Sydney.)
Broots: Sydney.
Sydney: How is she?
Broots: Well she’s lost a lot of blood. Her fever’s over a hundred and
two. The doctors say she’s developed peritonitis, whatever the hell that
is.
Sydney: It’s bad.
Broots: They said she . . . said that she might not make it. I wish there
was something I could do.
(Sydney puts his arm around Broot’s waist and Broots reciprocates.)
Sydney: You’re already doing it Broots.
(The nurse enters.)
Nurse: Sorry guys. I’ve got to ask you to leave now. It’s real important
she gets her rest.
(Sydney and Broots turn to leave and the nurse goes over to Miss Parker.)
Parker: Faith. Faith.
Nurse: (She strokes Miss Parker’s forehead.) Shh. It’s okay. It’s okay.
Parker: Faith.

Outside ICU
Broots: She keeps saying something about faith.
Sydney: That’s what Angelo said in the Sim Lab when he saw the rosary
that Jarod sent her.
Broots: Right before she collapsed. What do you think it means?
Sydney: I’m not sure. But I seem to remember there was a project a
long time ago that was code named Faith. We need to get back to The
Centre.
Broots: Now?
Sydney: I believe Jarod was in a plane crash.
Broots: What?
Sydney: I need you to try to figure out where he might have gone down.
(The nurse emerges from Miss Parker’s room.) Nurse.
Nurse: Yes?
Sydney: If her condition changes . . .
Nurse: I have all your numbers. I’ll contact you immediately. There’s
not much you can do here now, anyway. It’s all up to her now.
Sydney: Thank you.

Inside ICU
Parker: I have to find Faith.

Flashback
(Miss Parker enters the dome and walks past Jarod to the “coffin”. It is
set up on a trestle and for all intents and purposes looks like a coffin
except for the hand holes cut at frequent intervals on the sides. Inside a
young girl lies, a blanket covering her from the neck down.)
Miss Parker: It’s . . . it’s a girl.
Young Jarod: She’s beautiful. (But also very pale with dark shadows
under her eyes. She has long straight hair.)
Faith: Ah hm. (She stirs and opens her eyes.)
Young Jarod: You’re not dead.
Faith: Neither are you.
Young Jarod: Yeah. It’s just we . . . never mind.
(Faith sits up and Miss Parker moves to her side. Angelo stands on the
other side near the top of the bed but Jarod remains at the foot.)
Miss Parker: My name is Miss Parker.
Faith: Kinda formal isn’t it? Hi. I’m Faith.
Miss Parker: Hi.
Young Jarod: I’m Jarod. And this is Angelo. He doesn't talk much.
Faith: Hi. (She shakes hands with Angelo.)
Young Jarod: What are you doing here?
Faith: I’ve been sick. Really really sick. They brought me here to get
well. I’ve never seen other children in this place.
(Jarod picks up her chart from the end of the bed, opens it and starts
reading.)
Miss Parker: Yeah. They live here. I’m here with my dad. He works
here. As it turns out, I’m usually alone.
Faith: I’m used to being by myself too. But I’m not alone now. Maybe
we could play together, you know, be friends? (Jarod winces, closes and
replaces the chart.)
Miss Parker: I’d like that.
(They hear a noise from outside.)
Young Angelo: Bad.
Young Jarod: Come on. We’ve gotta get out of here. Someone’s
coming.
Miss Parker: We’re not supposed to be down here. We could get into a
lot of trouble.
Faith: I won’t tell anyone. I promise.
Miss Parker: We’ve got to go now. I’ll be back.
(She runs from the room, following the others.)
Faith: I’m not going anywhere.
(Faith slowly lies back down, the effort of sitting up for so long telling on
her face. She pulls the blanket up over her and closes her eyes.)

(Outside the dome, the trio have hidden behind some discarded
equipment. They watch the shadows of the medical team flicker against
the fabric that covers the dome.)
Young Angelo: Close.
Miss Parker: You know I’ve never had a friend before, I mean a
girlfriend. I can’t wait for Faith to get well so we can play together.
Young Jarod: Faith, ah, isn’t just sick. She’s very sick.
Miss Parker: What do you mean?
Jarod: I read her chart and she’s . . . she’s not going to make it.
Parker: But, I don’t want her to die. I don’t want anyone to die.

Crash Site
(Jarod is huddled and shivering under his thermal blanket, the snow still
falling.)

Hospital
ICU
(Miss Parker lies pale and unmoving on her bed, alone.)

The Centre
Angelo’s Space
(Angelo sits in the middle of a circle of lit candles. He is holding the
rosary and rocking gently backwards and forwards as he recites the
Catholic prayer.)
Angelo: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou
among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the time of our death.
Amen.

Crash Site
(Jarod slowly slumps over onto his side, the side of his face resting in the
snow.)

Hospital
(Miss Parker’s eyes have opened but are staring sightlessly towards the
end of the bed. The life support monitor emits a monotonic whine.)

The Centre
Angelo’s Space
(Angelo continues to recite the rosary.)
Angelo: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou
among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the time of our death.
Amen.

Hospital
(Miss Parker stares sightlessly.)

The Crash Site
(Jarod is unmoving in the snow.)

The Centre
Angelo’s Space
Angelo: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou
among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the time of our death. . .
Amen.

Crash Site
(Jarod opens his eyes when he hears the sound of a child’s laughter. He
sees Faith skipping and jumping. She is surrounded by a glowing aura.)
Faith: Hi Jarod.

Hospital
(The nurse enters followed by the doctor and an orderly with a crash
cart.)
Nurse: No pulse! No respiration!
Doctor: We’ve got full cardia people. 10ccs of emfremsepaline now.
Prepare to defibrillate starting at one hundred. All clear.
(The doctor applies the paddles and Miss Parker’s body leaps involuntarily
from the bed. Faith appears as a transparent glowing image at the foot of
the bed.)
Faith: Hi.

Flashback
(The trio re-enter the dome.)
Young Jarod: Are you okay?
Miss Parker: Yeah. I guess. Come on. Is she asleep?
Young Angelo: Faith. Faith. (He gently rocks her shoulder.)
(Faith awakens. She is paler and weaker than what she was the previous
visit. She does not sit up.)
Faith: Oh, hi. Did you see her?
Miss Parker: Who?
Faith: My mummy. She was right here.
Young Jarod: There’s no one here.
Faith: I must have been dreaming. But it was so real. We were laughing
and talking about what we were going to do, and I didn’t feel, you know,
sick any more.
Miss Parker: How do you feel?
Faith: Better since you got here.
Miss Parker: Here. (She places a rosary in Faith’s hand.) It was my
mum’s. Mine now. (She starts to cry.) She said that I should hold it and
think about her whenever I feel frightened or sad. I it was like I would
feel her with me again. (Young Jarod and young Angelo exchange a look.)
And before you know it I’m not frightened or lonely any more. It always
makes me feel better.
Faith: Thank you. Thank you for being my friend. I will always be my
friend. I will always be there for you, watching you, just like my mum.
(Her eyes close and her face relaxes.)
Young Jarod: She’s gone.
Miss Parker: No. No. Please no Faith, please don’t leave me. No. No.
Please no, Faith.
Young Jarod: They’ll be here soon. Come on.
(An alarm starts to sound.)
Angelo: G . . . go.

Hospital
(Even though Miss Parker is technically dead and her eyes stare
sightlessly, one gets the impression that she can see Faith sitting at the
end of the bed.)
Faith: I told you I would always be watching you. You’ve got to fight.
You can’t give up. It’s not your time yet.
Doctor: All clear.
(The doctor applies the paddles again and Miss Parker’s body convulses
again.)
Faith: You’re mummy loves you very much and she wants you to fight
too.
Doctor: Up to 200 One more time.
(The electricity is applied again. The medical team all stand around
anxiously looking for some return of life signs.)
Faith: Your mummy loves you very much.

Flashback
(Miss Parker and Catherine Parker sit at Catherine’s dressing table.
Catherine is brushing her hair using long strokes of a long handled brush.)
Parker: Mummy, show me how to braid my hair.
Catherine: Alright.

Doctor: We got her.
Nurse: This one’s a fighter.

Crash Site
(Faith appears again.)
Faith: Jarod, you can’t give up.
Jarod: I don’t understand.
Faith: Just hang on. They’ll be coming for you soon. Don’t give up.
(She laughs and skips off fading into the shubbery. Jarod struggles to sit
up. He takes a fluorescent flare tube from the kit and breaks it. He holds
it close to him. He smiles weakly at the wolf who is sniffing the ground
nearby.)
Jarod: Not yet. You can’t have me yet. Just hang on. It’ll be daylight
soon. Hang on. (He is shivering heavily as the snow falls around him.)

The Centre
Sim Lab
(Broots is leaning over a map on a table. Sydney enters. He is holding
the rosary in his right hand.)
Broots: Any news on Miss Parker?
Sydney: Nothing. But her father should be there about now. He was
flying back in as soon as he heard what happened. And, I found
something. (He places a file in front of Broots.)
Broots: What? (Sydney opens the file. There is a picture of Faith and
some paperwork.)
Sydney: Very deep in the Centre Archive. Faith.
Broots: Faith. Who is she?
Sydney: A young girl who was here a long time ago. The record’s
incomplete. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to hide the truth. Any luck
with Jarod?
Broots: Oh yeah. Using a map of Yellowstone, flight charts and satellite
weather imaging from the last time you spoke with Jarod I figured he
went down somewhere right in here. (He indicates a spot on the map.)
Sydney: That would take days to search.
Broots: Well maybe not. I contacted the Montana Air Patrol and they
received a distress call from someone in this area but lost it before they
could establish an exact location.
Sydney: Jarod?
Broots: Well, it has to be. Using an emergency radio. I correlated my
data along with the location of the Air Patrol’s receiving station. You
see, I figure he’s got to be right here along this three mile bank of river.
Sydney: Contact Montana Air Patrol immediately. (Broots turns and
hurriedly walks away. Sydney twirls the rosary onto the map, forming a
circle around the place where Broot’s suspects that Jarod went down.) I
just hope we’re not too late.

Hospital
(A nurse takes Miss Parker’s pulse. She turns to Mr Parker who is sitting,
head bowed, beside the bed.)
Nurse: Her vitals are stable. All we can do now is wait.
Miss Parker: Thank you nurse.
Parker: Faith. Where are you? Where are you? Where are you?

Flashback
The Centre
Sim Lab
(Miss Parker and Young Jarod are sitting outside the round ventilation
grills near the bottom of the stairs. Young Angelo sits on the other side of
one of the grills. Miss Parker is crying. Young Jarod looks on with
concern.)
Young Jarod: Are you going to be alright?
Miss Parker: I think so. Where did she go?
Young Jarod: I don’t know. At least she didn’t die alone.
Miss Parker: I wonder if we’ll ever see her again.
Young Angelo: Have faith.
Young Jarod: She said she’d always be watching over us.
Miss Parker: I miss her and I don’t even know who she was.
(Jarod takes her in his arms in an attempt to console her.)

Hospital
(Miss Parker is crying when she regains consciousness.)
Parker: Faith. Oh Daddy.
Mr Parker: I’m so glad you’re back.
Parker: Daddy?
Mr Parker: Yes Angel?
Parker: Who’s Faith?
Mr Parker: Faith was your sister.

Crash Site
(It is morning. Jarod is wrapped in the thermal blanket, partly covered in
snow, shivering, but sitting upright against the fallen tree branch.)

Flashback
The Centre
Containment Area
(Jarod hides behind the equipment. He can see the shadows of two men
inside the Containment area.)
Mr Parker: What an awful way to die.
Raines: Mr Parker. The cleaner’s will be here soon to dispose of the
body.
Mr Parker: God’s sake Raines, don’t you have any compassion. Find the
priest who did Catherine’s funeral, Father Moore. I want him to make the
arrangements.
Raines: Father Moore. I never trusted him. We don’t know what all
Catherine may have told him over the years.
Mr Parker: I don’t think you understand me. Catherine’s wishes will be
carried out. The body is to go to Father Moore. End of discussion.
(Raines leaves. Mr Parker kneels down beside the bed.) Good Lord.
Nobody should ever die alone.

Crash Site
(The savage growling of the wolf wakes Jarod. He pulls back the blanket,
picks up a rock and throws it at the dog.)
Jarod: You can’t have me yet. (The rock does not discourage the dog.
However, the sound of an approaching helicopter does. Jarod waves his
uninjured arm in the air.) Over here.
Pilot: He’s alive!
Co Pilot: I’ll be damned.

Hospital
Parker: Daddy why didn’t you tell me about Faith?
Mr Parker: I didn’t tell you about Faith at first because I knew she was
dying. After your mother, I couldn’t tell you. We’d both had enough.
Parker: (She pulls the oxygen tube from her nose and pulls it over her
head.) She was my sister?
Mr Parker: Her parents were killed. She became a ward of the State.
Then she was diagnosed with Leukemia. The doctors said that there was,
ah, nothing to be done. The State put her in a convalescent home to die.
Parker: How did she end up at The Centre?
Mr Parker: Well your ah, mother’s priest, Father Moore told her about the
girl. They went to see her. Your mother said that might have been you in
the nursing home. She had to do something otherwise she couldn’t live
with herself.
Parker: So the two of you adopted her.
Mr Parker: Well with Father Moore’s help, we brought her to the Centre
where Catherine could be with her. We doctored her with an experimental
drug the Centre was developing. Future treatment proved successful
because of what we had learned from Faith. She died shortly after
Catherine.
(The door opens and the nurse enters.)
Nurse: Miss Parker. There are some people who would like to see you.
(Broots and Sydney enter.)
Broots: Miss Parker. Hi! Mr Parker.
Sydney: The Nurse called to let us know that you had regained
consciousness and I thought you’d want this. (He places the rosary in
her hand.)
Parker: (She stifles a sob.) Thank you both.
Sydney: Broots. (He indicates the door with a nod of his head.)
Broots: I guess we’ll see you later.
(They leave. Outside in the corridor, Sydney’s cellular phone beeps.)
Sydney: Yes. (He listens briefly.) Thank you. (He disconnects.)
Broots: Jarod?
Sydney: They found him, alive.
(They both laugh in relief. Broots turns and looks at Miss Parker through
the window.)

Hospital
(A different one.)
(Jarod is lying on a bed, his left arm in a sling, his hand connected to a
drip. He stirs as he feels a presence in the room. It is an older man in a
priest’s frock, a white collar at his throat. He is pushing a wheelchair.)
Father Moore: Jarod it’s nice to finally meet you in the flesh. I’m Father
Moore.
Jarod: How did you find me?
Father Moore: Well I was concerned when you didn’t arrive at Bute. You
seemed so anxious to meet the last time we spoke. Our mutual friend at
the Centre told me what happened and where I could find you.
(Jarod partially sits up and looks around nervously.)
Jarod: The Centre?
Father Moore: No no. Relax. The Centre has no idea where you are or
where we’re going.
Jarod: Thank you for helping me.
Father Moore: Catherine Parker would have wanted it that way.
(Jarod smiles and nods.)

Miss Parker’s Residence
(Miss Parker is sitting in an armchair, a blanket over her legs. She is
holding the rosary in one hand and the phone in the other.)
Parker: I’d forgotten how beautiful it is. How did you get it?
(Jarod is sitting in a window seat that has a view up to the mountains. He
is holding a cup in one hand and the phone in the other.)
Jarod: An old friend of your mother’s.
Parker: Father Moore.
Jarod: He found the Rosary clutched in Faith’s hand. He knew how much
it meant to your mother so he wanted me to give it to you.
Parker: Thank you Jarod. Do you ever think about her?
Jarod: I think about her all the time. It’s ironic too.
Parker: What is?
Jarod: All those years ago, we went searching for death and we found
someone who saved our lives.
Parker: I’m sure she was in that room with me
Jarod: And I’m sure she was with me up on that mountain with me.
Parker: She said she would always be watching over me.
Jarod: She was.
Parker: Are we crazy?
Jarod: I don’t know exactly what happened. But I do know that I’m sure
of one thing.
Parker: What?
Jarod: Love transcends death. That the people we love touch our lives
even after they’re gone. (He disconnects.)

Cemetery
(Miss Parker and Mr Parker are standing at the grave marker of Faith
Parker. Miss Parker places the rosary on it. She leans in to Mr Parker and
he kisses her tenderly on the forehead.)

On the Mountain
(Faith laughs and skips before disappearing into the shrubbery.)
